I went into medicine in order to help improve the health of people. Ever since I was a young child, I've been fascinated with science; with how it has improved our lives and the possiblity of studying exciting new ideas. I went to medical school and residency to learn the science needed to help people. I thought I would learn how disease happens and how to cure it.
As I started to practice, I realized that the practice of medicine was always full of unanswered questions despite my best efforts to keep up with the latest in medical science. Medicine is not like Star Trek in which you take a medical tricorder out and get a precise diagnosis. The process of making a diagnosis is actually a series of educated guesses. Ordering blood tests or X-rays are used to help narrow the possibilities of what a person has. From there, doctors will guess at what medication will help or perhaps refer a patient to a specialist. What most people don't realize is that there are many symptoms in which a definitive diagnosis and treatment are not commonly found. These are very common symptoms such as pain, fatigue, dizziness and generally not feeling well. Some doctors tell these people that "nothing wrong can be found," "it's probably all in your head," or "it's from aging." I found it extremely frustating to be unable to help many of these common complaints.
I was also frustrated with my own chronic medical problems that I've had since I was a child. Medications would help my symptoms for several hours at a time then I'd need to take another dose. I wanted to be free of dependence from medications.
I knew that the way to deliver better results than conventional medicine was to look outside of conventional medicine. I thought a good place to start is to explore how people recover from illness outside of medicine. Naturally, the first place to start was with my family. Both my parents are acupuncturists so I grew up knowing that acupuncture frequently helps those who have not been helped by medicine. I did learn acupuncture and used it in my practice. It did indeed help many people particularly with pain problems, but there was still probably about 1/3 who didn't respond as well as I liked. I wanted to know how to help those remaining 1/3 and what to do with non-pain related problems.
I discovered a myriad of ways people have recovered from illness. Historically, there was Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, homeopathy, and herbs. There are probably thousands of other methods including vitamins, minerals, supplements, chiropractic, osteopathic medicine, mind-body medicine, nutrition, diets, exercise and so on and so forth. I read countless books by physicians who had experience with many of these systems, such as Andrew Weil, M.D. I subscribed to newsletters from physicians who were supposedly highly regarded in the use of alternative medicine. I was excited to try these new techniques in my practice only to be disappointed. I found the use of nutrition and supplements to be highly inconsistent and unreliable. I tried countless methods that these "alternative experts" said would help my own condition but nothing helped.
At the same time, I was not happy with the prescription of medications. They, too, can be very inconsistent even with all the money spent on research. For any drug or treatment to be approved by the FDA, it only has to be better than placebo generally meaning that it only needs to have a success rate of 30% or so. For instance, medications that help people quit smoking keep only about a quarter of people who try it off of cigarettes after a year (N Engl J Med 1997 Oct 23;337(17):1195-202). In the treatment of depression, antidepressants work only about 50% of the time (Arch Gen Psychiatry 1998 Dec;55(12):1121-7).
The situation is more discouraging when you look at side effects. Approximately one quarter of all prescriptions lead to a side effect. Medications are responsible from anywhere between 100,000-200,00 deaths in the U.S. per year.
Once a medication is started, a patient is usually on it for the rest of his/her life. Unfortunately, most people develop more illnesses and eventually need to be placed on more medications for the rest of their lives. After the entire diagnosis and treatment process, many people still don't feel well and some feel worse.
This is not to say that you should run from medical doctors. Conventional medicine is still 2nd to none in many situations, especially in medical emergencies such as accidents, strokes, heart attacks, and serious infections. For non-emergent problems, I knew there must be a better way.
While attending a national conference of physician acupuncturists, I attended a seminar on treating fibromyalgia. The physician speaker said that he was able to cure 50% of his cases using a combination of kinesiology, acupuncture, and homeopathy. I had never heard of a single case ever being cured so I was stunned. I had seen very impressive diagnoses made through kinesiology in the past and I knew that hundreds of thousands of doctors around the world used homeopathy with success.
As I did more research, fate led me to Field Control Therapy or F.C.T. developed by Savely Yurkovsky, M.D. His theories resonated intensely with me as a truer paradigm of health and illnesses based on my background in physics, conventional and alternative medcine. It explained why other systems of healing work sometimes and why they don't work sometimes. It radically changed how I understood healing.
When I started to practice F.C.T. in September 2005, I was worried if it would work for my patients. Over the 3 years I've used FCT, I've seen many amazing improvements in health. My fellow FCT colleauges in the U.S. and Europe reported similar results. I also became a patient of Dr. Yurkovsky and for the first time, I am starting to recover from my chronic illnesses.
Through Bioresonance Testing in F.C.T., I literally relearned medicine as each person taught me some of the real causes of disease. I've learned that sick patients who have been told "it's all in your head" are often very toxic. These patients are so relieved that F.C.T. explains why they are really are sick and even more relieved when they start to improve.
While FCT was the best therapy I used, I was still concerned that there were a certain percentage of people that did not fully improve. I continued my seach for answers then one of my colleagues in England said he was getting good results with liver flushing. I started to use them myself and got good results. I then started to test it out on my patients and sure enough, they improved as well. I've told a few of my other colleagues then they reported very good results as well.
I also discovered Matrix Energetics in the process of looking for answers. The videos on their website looked unbelievable. I consulted a trusted colleague who is very knowledgable of energy medicine and she said that it looked valid. I took the course wondering if I could really just heal people with my mind and hands. As soon as I left the course, I started working on my patients and they responded very well. I soon realized that it worked better than acupuncture and drastically cut back on how much I was doing.
In 2008, I discovered Nutri-Energetics Systems. It appeared that virtually everything I had learned about healing to that point was incorporated into this one system. It included knowledge from Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, biology, and physics. In many respects, it was similar to FCT, but only much more advanced. The great advantage of NES is its user friendliness. The supplements are easy to take and no precautions need to be taken as in FCT. More importantly, the response rate to NES is the best I've ever seen from any therapy I've encountered.
I still practice internal medicine because only some people are ready to step outside of the box and move towards true healing. Many people believe that the pharmaceutical industry has a magic bullet for every problem when none exist. Many people have been conditioned to believe that sitting back and popping pills is the way to get healthier. Many people value the pleasure from not living a healthy lifestyle more than their own health. Others believe that they should only get medical care paid for by their insurance. Many people are uncomfortable with new ideas. Others are skeptical. I can and still prescribe medications as well as any other physician but I always feel a little guilty for not giving them the best care I know of.
As a child growing up, science for me was an adventure: trying to discover and explore new ideas. Today, science seems to have lost that sense of adventure. New ideas are often dismissed and "science" is mostly about making profits. For me, the development of my Natural Healing Program has recaptured the spirit of science and medicine: pioneering new ideas to restore people's health.
I believe that many years down the road, that we'll look back at conventional medicine as medicine of the "Dark Ages.," much like bleeding and snake oil are viewed today. It will probably be considered malpractice not to use therapies based on the principles of healing that I use. Until that happens, I just continue to watch in amazement the ability of the body to heal itself one person at a time.
